I was recently accused of ad-hominem by a commenter in my last article and I want to know when does this apply?
I commented on a persons article of their pro-stance of why the Beijing Olympics should be boycotted. By stating the CCP is not a communist from of government at all, but a quasi-capitalist socialists oligarchy. The author responded by accusing me of supporting the CCP, with no factual basis for this attack against my character. Other than to "assume" I supported them from my posted comment. Would this not constitute ad-hominem?
I have also commented on this persons articles of not providing enough background detail in their articles so the reader at opednews can formulate a honest opinion of what the author is saying, in order to sway the misinformed towards their point of view. I was accused by the author of not supporting the "Peaceful" Dali Lama, by providing in my comment the struggle by the different Buddhist sects and their centuries long violent struggle to be the spiritual leader spoke-person of which the current Dali Lama is a member of. Is this not ad-hominem against me?
I'm told in comments by the author of these articles of half-truths and deliberate left out material, that one should only comment on a articles content and not make generalized comparisons about unrelated situations not outlined in their articles. Being accused as an unpatriotic American when I provide an accurate history of the USA., to compare their reasons of why China should not be in administrative control of Tibet. Is this not ad-hominem?
I have commented on how this author is willing to accuse me of ad-hominem only after they have done so first, with their baseless and fact-less accusations, based off my comments posted on their articles.
They go on to say that opednews is not a web-site of high ethical standards, when they don't remove posted comment contrary to the articles stated objectives. Is this not ad-hominem?
