George W. Bush is an outstanding symbol of the United States. In fact, the United States deserves George W. Bush. To borrow from H. L. Mencken, the American people have indeed elected a president, and a bipartisan majority of Congress, as idiotic as themselves. We can expect more in the future.

During the 2000 presidential election campaign it was known that Bush was a drunken and abrasive C student frat boy, who used Daddy's influence to avoid active duty in Vietnam by enlisting in the Texas National Guard. He also used Daddy's influence to wrangle a "legacy scholarship" to Yale University for an apparently worthless MBA and went on to pursue several failed business ventures. Fortunately, Daddy and Daddy's wealthy friends bailed him out. All was forgiven because he overcame his alcoholism and became a born again Christian.

During the election campaign we also knew that Bush was inarticulate, uninformed about world politics and so devoid of curiosity that he seldom read books and had never traveled abroad. As governor of Texas he signed over 100 executions and tax cut the state into near bankruptcy. He did say that Jesus was his political philosopher.

No reasonably competent individual would remotely consider Bush qualified to be president of the United States, but Americans gave Bush enough votes to steal the 2000 election in Florida and the 2004 election in Ohio. Polls indicate that a near majority and in some cases a majority of Americans are generally uninformed, seldom read a book, religious fundamentalists, anti-intellectual, anti-science, anti-choice, advocates of creationism, homophobic, misogynistic and quite probably racists. They do not hestitate to glorify their ignorance and prejudices into universal truths and attempt to impose their beliefs on the rest of us.

Did you believe the Bush/Cheney lies after 9/11? Were you among the 90% of Americans who gave Bush a favorable rating when he ordered the invasion of Iraq in violation of international law? Have you looked the other way as the United States has become an international rogue nation and torture state?

Did you merely shrug at news of the massive corruption in the Department of Justice? Do you see no problem with continued out sourcing and the loss of over three million lost manufacturing jobs? Are you not troubled when you shop in Walmart that over 70% of its non-food products are made in Communist China? Are you not concerned about the massive trade deficit, the "off the books" cost of the Iraq war financed by foreign loans and the ten trillion in national debt?

Do you believe that banning abortion, gay marriage and stem cell research is more important than any of the above issues? Do you believe that you actually received a middle class tax cut? Do you not give a damn about millions of Americans without basic health care? Do you depend on the corporate media for news and consider yourself informed? Did you vote for Bush in 2000 or 2004?

Then you are an American idiot.
