Yes, be afraid -- be very afraid.I wrote my congresspeople about the need, within the next 2 years, to revamp the voting system so that the acknowledged discrepancies between reality and the electronic counts can't do anything like literally giving the 2008 vote to Cheney.
They just don't care, and assure me they're getting together a team of band-aid experts that will fix everything.
The only explanation I can imagine is that they're afraid of being made to look too radical by the mainstream media if they acknowledge that anything's broken.
Exit-polling has not lost its accuracy with the inception of right-wing dominance in the vote-counting industry. What has changed with that dominance is the amount of cheating. And if the cheating, itself, is not addressed, the takeover will be total.
And if you think Bush hasn't been the "compassionate conservative" he labelled himself, just wait for Cheney without that label. Yes, do, by all means, think of who the "Allies" opposed in World War II. Adolf was literally elected. And it already is happening here.
Our "institutions" will not, automatically, make everything come out good in the end.
The reason people like "Romance" literature is not, at all, because "they all lived happily ever after" is some kind of representation of reality, but precisely because it is not.
