This three-part quiz is to determine if progressives, or liberals, are as astute as they think or have an advantage over the typical conservative.

But first some background.

It has been nearly 45 years since the United States Supreme Court issued its much-despised decision in the school-prayer case.

Yet, at this late date conservative opponents to that decision, Engle v. Vitale, lie about the conclusion, lie about what the judges said or what the decision means and does. We can say they lie because to pretend to be knowledgeable on a matter one knows nothing about is lying. It's as if conservatives have never read the 11-paragraph decision written by Justice Hugo Black, who presented it in clear, easy-to-understand English, unlike the legalistic babble presently put out by Antonin Scalia that is often declared as brilliant because few can understand what Scalia is talking about, including Scalia. If any conservative has read the decision, he, she, or it has come to think the decision says something entirely different from what it actually says.

The conservative argument is that the court removed God from the schools or that school children are forbidden to pray in school. Those are not true.

The truth is, there has never been a court decision denying children the right to pray in school nor has there ever been a decision placing restrictions on religion or religious practices and beliefs in public schools by students other than the Gobitis decision of 1940, and that was overturned by the Supreme Court in the Barnette case in 1943.

Whenever a court issues a decision conservatives dislike, they immediately claim, "Legislating from the bench" when, in reality, a court is merely ruling for one side of the case and against the other.

Those of vintage age should remember the howls of indignation from the right after John Lennon said the Beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ. One would have thought that the whole of world civilization was threatened by such a silly ~ but probably true ~ statement. Considering that about a third of the Earth's population is influenced by Jesus but the Beatles' influence was world wide, Lennon appears to have been right. But, the conservative mind hears, reads and understands only what it wants to hear, read and understand. Lennon didn't say the Beatles were more important than, superior to, or better than Christ, only that they had a larger following. But that didn't deter conservatives who understood only what they wanted to understand, and what they understood was not what was said.

We must be reminded of the statement by philosopher John Stuart Mill that, "Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservative." Alexander Pope opined that "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing." and conservatives seem to have as little knowledge as possible.

Conservatives are not illiterate, unliterate, nonliterate or even disliterate since they can read and write ~ to a degree ~ but they seem to have a problem understanding what they have read. And when they write a response, they seem to have trouble making their arguments coherent.

With that in mind, the first part of this quiz is to determine if conservatives are "misliterate" or "malliterate." Choose one and explain your reasoning

LIKE WORDS

There are many instances in the English language where words called homonyms occur, sharing one pronunciation but differing in spelling and meaning. Three-word homonyms are common ~ such as to, too and two; or for, fore and four ~ but there is only one instance in which four homonyms occur, and strangely, they will form a literate sentence.

The second phase of the quiz is to translate the sentence:

"Write wright rite right."

WHY IS IT?

The third and final part of the quiz is to determine and explain that if a noun is a person, place or thing, why is "nothing" ("no" and "thing" ) a noun?

This is not a contest, so no wagering.

There will be no prizes to those who think they aced the quiz other than the self-serving smugness of realizing you are smarter than the average conservative; which is no big woof.

Do not read any other reply before replying yourself. After replying, you may then check your answers with other progressive responses.

Hope some of you got a small chuckle at this lighthearted quiz, because a sense of humor is the most-obvious sign of a fine intelligent mind, which is why few comedians are conservatives and why Fox News failed miserably when it tried to air a news-based humor program. Jeff Foxworthy is a conservative, but he has a valid excuse for his conservatism; he's a redneck. Dennis Miller, who was scared into the conservative camp because he was duped into thinking that George W. Bush was best equipped to protect this nation, is a recently converted rightie. Thinking Bush could do anything to protect the nation is a sure sign of a weak foolish mind, which explains why Miller is no longer funny.
