A friend asked me what I thought would be needed to fix our broken system. Others may be able to come up with better suggestions, but here's what I wrote:

::::::::

Some of the things that would be necessary in order for us to have a democratic form of government would be:

1. A Constitution that protected people, not just property, by guaranteeing basic economic human rights, such as food, clothing, shelter, health care, and education.

2. Direct election AND impeachment by the people of ALL elected officials.

3. The abolition of the electoral college, making the Supreme Court an elected rather than an appointed position, an end to gerrymandering, publicly financed elections, the restoration of the Fairness Doctrine, and hand-marked, hand-counted ballots at the precincts in full public view.

4. Reparations to Native Americans for genocide, and to African-Americans for slavery.

5. Participatory democracy where no tax can be imposed, no war waged, and nothing done by government without a direct vote by the people.

6. Proportional representation. A ban on any income bracket being represented in Congress in a greater percentage than their proportion in the population. If billionaires are 1% of the population, only 1% of Congress can be billionaires. If millionaires are 5% of the population, no more than 5% of Congress can be millionaires.

For starters.   :)

I'm an anti-civilizationist and election boycott advocate in San Diego. For reasons not to vote in faith-based elections with secret vote counts for candidates you cannot hold accountable if they fail to represent you, check out the discussions, (more...)
