The title sums it up.

::::::::

In spite of its perhaps provocative title, this writing is a genuine attempt at exposing its author's non-partisan perspectives on the political postures of my fellow citizens.

Why would I propose myself as a critic of your political persuasion, or for that matter of anyone's? And is there not already a surplus of self-appointed political advisors, and most of them claiming to be objective and realistic rather than partisan in arriving at the "correct" political direction they are ever ready to lay upon anyone witless enough to pay them heed? You bet!

I am in fact a bit more qualified than some, I would however contend, simply by virtue of my extended years having exposed me across a longer time than most to the effects of more partisan enthusiasms and subsequent disappointments.

But atop my validation of advisory credentials is a rare one indeed, which is that I will propose no political personality for you to embrace, no party for you to support, and indeed no manner of political thought for you to favor or course for you to pursue -- except that you should invest some serious solitary time and critical thought into determining exactly what politics are to your best interests and which best serve the kind of society you want to live in.

And, oh yes, in preparation for your personal critical analysis, it's important to check some facts in the areas of your primary concerns, and to beware of the pitfall of the "America is best" syndrome. An example: If medical care is important to you, do not be quick to swallow such a proposition as "the government should not fiddle with the world's best medical system," meaning, of course, ours. A bit of easy fact checking will reveal that the World Health Organization rates the United States 37th "best" among the family of nations at serving the medical needs of its citizens.

So, yes, I do propose a wake up call!
