A Friendly Reminder to the Media

Message Ronnie Manns

Far be it for me to assert that I am all knowing and that I alone know what's going on in President Obama's mind at any time. What I do know is every step that he is making was made clear during the campaign. If memory serves, it's all there. Please allow me to offer a few examples of which I speak.

Regarding bringing those who attacked us on 9/11 to justice, he stated that after a through review of the actions that were taken by the past administration, those that can be brought to justice with the greatest possibility of a successful prosecution would be done as swiftly as possible. Those whom cases hinges on too much information gathered by those advanced interrogation techniques would not. He said that he do not think it wise to bring them into court system because America would be more on trial than those who are being tried. Hence the four coming to New York and the others going through Military Tribunals (alleged USS Cole attackers). Now I am not an attorney and I do not play one on television but I must admit crime dramas are my thing and Law and Order Shows have always been a favorite, I think the reason why there seems to not be a major concern regarding torture for those coming to New York is in order for the defense to bring in the question of torture, the prosecution has to open the door. If nothing in the prosecution's case mentions torture then the defense can not introduce it. Attorney General Holder mentioned that without the information gained by torture they still have an excellent shot at a conviction. I can only assume that the case is extremely strong without the torture information for these four but not for those being sent to tribunals.

Regarding how he would make decisions, he stated, in the campaign, that he would hear from all different views. After he has heard from every possible view on the subject, he would carefully consider the question and make a decision. He specifically warned that no one or nothing would make any decision for him. He spoke of the fear that some may have that his personal Solomon would sneak into the White House to tell him what to do.

Now that he is taking time to weight all possible options before committing troops, blood and treasure, some say that he is taking too long. Could it be that we are so used to the "shoot first and ask questions later theme. America knew that he was going to be very deliberate on these decisions before he was elected. For the many who voted to hire him, we are anxious to see what he will decide but are glad that we have someone in that office who will think first which in itself is change we can believe in. We all know that no mortal has the ability of foresight but in my experience an educated decision is far better than a "knee-jerk reaction.
