On Monday morning, December 29, 2008 in the wee hours of the morning, a Molotov cocktail caused a fire at Temple Shalom in Chicago. My point in posting this is that the Chicago branch of the Council on American Islamic Relations contacted Temple Shalom to offer support. Out of the many news releases, only ABC Local in Chicago and MSN were kind enough to positively mention the outreach effort made by the Chicago branch of the Council on American Islamic Relations. There's also a press release on the Chicago website of the Council on American Islamic Relations. My interest in how this story has been and is currently being covered lies in my concerns about our very fragile civil rights, what constitutes patriotism and universal moral imperatives. The only way that minority religions and minority cultures are to survive in this country is by closing ranks due to the hate and criminal acts committed by American domestic terrorists. I feel safer knowing that the Council on American Islamic Relations has consistently stepped up to the plate to protect my rights as an American Jew.
