Here are 3 questions I sent to Lehrer, Schieffer, Crowley and the Debate Commission urging them to ask the Presidential Candidates. Perhaps others agree and would like to join in urging these questions (or some of your own.)
1. Given that our economy is still fragile and that 11 European countries which engaged in spending cut austerity have all gone back into recession, would you and your opponent promise now to put going over the fiscal cliff on Presidential Moratorium for the first two years of your term by promising to veto any bill to either cut any budgeted spending and any that proposed a tax increase? How about agreeing to give the economy at least one year of a Presidential Moratorium, breathing room?
2. Nowhere does our Constitution or Declaration of Independence use the words "free enterprise," or "prosperity" or "balanced accounts." Many Americans understand how general welfare programs, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. support goals stated in the Preamble of the Constitution such as forming a more perfect Union, ensuring domestic tranquility and promoting the general Welfare. Extremes of wealth and poverty do the opposite. How do national debt reduction and budget balancing contribute to these goals? Also, how does cutting programs like Medicaid and food stamps now, with so much unemployment, contribute more to these goals than preserving them or even expanding their benefits?

3. The Assad government of Syria is an ally of Iran. But Israel has a splendid air force and 100 to 300 nuclear weapons while Iran does not yet have even one. Many Americans do not consent to a third American War in the Middle East, costing hundreds of billions of dollars and tens of thousands of lives. Will you promise here and now that you will not put American "boots on the ground" in Syria or Iran during your first four years in office? First 3 years? First 2 years? First 1 year?
