Possibilities:

--- Refining our understanding of power.

Power can be conceived as an energy that holds the capacity to create change. In itself it is neither positive or negative, and it is an energy what every one of us has within and between us. Today we are seeing a degeneration of the use of power.

For example, as women become increasingly conscious, they frequently become more aware of the dynamic of power in their relationships with men. This includes the negative conditioning they carry, believing that the real power exists primarily outside themselves. The arbiter of worthiness is often placed in anything perceived to have authority - male-based institutions, traditions, beliefs.

This is not a conscious choice. It is a collusion between those who set themselves up as authorities and the rest of us. Yet, let us recall that, in the long run, such power centers exist only as long as they are believed in.

The first step is to become very conscious of what we are doing: giving our power away. From this awareness, networks of conscious human beings - islands of sanity - can arise. This may include retreats in which it is safe to speak one's truth, and to give and receive genuine support. Regarding power, this involves focusing on issues of accountability, rather than placing blame. (Meg Wheatley, Pema Chodron, Peter Senge)

The "blame game" forgets that our adversaries are essentially mirror of those they have victimized. Placing blame wastes energy, sees the locus of control in terms of external factors, and saps us of our ability to access the power we have within ourselves. A fundamental sense of division is detrimental to all of our well-being. At the same time, we must also become proficient in the art of setting limits and seeing divisions as relative, rather than absolute.
